So, summer hasn't quite hit just yet.
Right now, it's pretty much like winter.
But the sun will be here soon, right?
Time to get started on some summer reads!
If you'd like to take a look back at previous Summer Spotlight posts and maybe find some great summer reads from years gone by (my go-to summer reads are YA contemps with beach-town settings and very hot boys!) then just click on the image above. It will take you to a magical place of sunshine, beach parties and long, hot summer nights.
Here are ten books on my summer reading list - a mix of old and new - there are some highly-rated summer reads from years past that I'm really hoping to get to this year! If you've read any of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han --To All the Boys I've Loved Before was my favourite book last year and so I've been counting down the days to this one. I've just started reading P.S. I Still Love You and I love it already. Super cute!
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick -- This is an older release that I really need to get to. I bought a copy of this one on release and somehow never got around to reading it even though I've heard ALL GREAT THINGS! A companion novel, The Boy Most Likely To, releases in August, so I need to get to this one before then.
The Summer After You and Me by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski -- This sounds like such a great summer contemp with its Jersey Shore setting and tale of summer love and broken hearts. Also, the cover is perfect. Can't wait to read this one!
Between Us and the Moon by Rebecca Maizel -- I really enjoyed Maizel's Vampire Queen series (OK, I still need to finish that series, but what I've read of it, I really liked) so this one went straight onto my summer reading list. I have been seeing a few mixed reviews of Between Us and the Moon, but I'm gonna give it a whirl anyway.
Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen -- People keep telling me that I have to read this book. It will happen. In a way, I'm kind of glad that I discovered Dessen so late, because now I have all the fun catching up to do!
Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls by Lynn Weingarten -- If you like your summer reads a little dark and twisty, here's one for you. Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls releases July and promises to be a thrilling read with shades of Gone Girl. Can't wait!
Villa America by Liza Klaussmann -- I really enjoyed Klaussmann's debut 'Tigers in Red Weather' and this one sounds like it'll be another hit for me. Set in the 1920’s on the French Riviera, Villa America is the summer getaway of Gerald and Sarah Murphy who live a charmed life filled with famous friends and fabulous parties, until, that is, a stranger enters their lives and tragedy strikes.
The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett -- Publisher buzz and early reviews suggest that will be one of THE books of the summer, and with its One Day meets Sliding Doors pitch, who am I to argue? Early reports indicated that this is very good indeed, and I really enjoyed One Day (liked the movie too!) so I'm hoping this will be a summer hit for me.
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter -- Another older release that I really should have gotten to a long time ago. I've had a copy of this one since 2012 would you believe! I have heard great things about this one, with its dreamy Italian setting and epic long-lost love story, and I am really looking forward to finally reading it.

The Blue by Lucy Clarke -- Lucy Clarke's books combine exotic locations with great mysteries and complicated family ties and as such she's one of my go-to authors for great summer reads. The Blue, which takes place aboard a luxury yacht full of dark secrets and mysterious happenings, releases late July.
The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett -- Publisher buzz and early reviews suggest that will be one of THE books of the summer, and with its One Day meets Sliding Doors pitch, who am I to argue? ReplyDeleteI've added your selections to my reading. I don't really read seasonally, just whatever I fancy.
ReplyDeleteYay! So excited for your Summer Spotlight! I am dying to hear your thoughts on Villa America and I am so excited for your to read Along for the Ride and Summer After You and Me - loved both! I also am looking forward to reading The Blue this summer.
ReplyDeleteI need to figure out what summer reads I'm going to choose as well! The only ones I've read from your list so far are Along for the Ride (which I hope you love!) and Second Chance Summer. I've heard so many good things about My Life Next Door though and I've been meaning to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before for ages (though I have been hesitant because I was not a fan of The Summer I Turned Pretty series). I also had no idea that Second Chance Summer got a new cover, but I love it! I have a soft spot for the old one though, I liked the way it matched the UK cover of Amy & Roger's Epic Detour.
ReplyDeleteI love your selections for summer reading. I havn't really got a summer reading list but I do have a couple of books to read at the moment. The Life Apart by Jean Chery and Sophie Hannah's A Game for all the family.
ReplyDeleteThis Summer I want to read more of my favourite genres dystopian & post apocalyptic as well as explore other genres I don't read as much of such as contemporary and steampunk
ReplyDeleteI have so many summer reads this year. I want to read The Percy Jackson series and read all the books that I own but haven't read. Also the Throne of Glass series. I have pretty ambitious goals for this summer, but with all the free time I will have, I think I can do it. Great post!
ReplyDeleteSuicide Notes From Beautiful Girls will be coming away with me in August
ReplyDeleteOh you have so many great books to look forward to Leanna! I really enjoyed P.S. I Still Love you and I can't wait to read The Summer After You & Me! Happy reading! :)
ReplyDeleteAlong for the Ride is a perfect summer read! Some of the books that are on my summer reading list are Things We Know By Heart, The Start of Me and You (re-read), The Replaced and The Last Time We Say Goodbye. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI read My Life Next Door and Morgan Matson's other book - Amy and Roger's Epic Detour and I really enjoyed both. I would also recommend any book by Sophie Kinsella.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to Chasing River by KA Tucker and Ever After by Rachel Lacey. Thanks for sharing your list! Lots to add to the TBR!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read Second Chance Summer
ReplyDeleteFrom your summer list, I've only read P.S. I Still Love You and My Life Next Door, absolutely loved them. Excited for Between Us and the Moon and Second Chance Summer (Since You've Been Gone was one of my favorite books last year).
ReplyDeleteSome of my summer reads - The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler, Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway, The Night We Said Yes by Lauren Gibaldi, Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone and The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick.
These all look like amazing reads!! I know some of these books!! I WANT theseeeeeeeeee like right NOW!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to read The Versions of Us I realised that the formatting on my eBook was all messed up - so I'll have to go out and buy a physical copy. I've been hearing good things!
ReplyDeleteTo All the Boys...was my favourite book last year! But then I loved Han's Summer series too! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read that one!
ReplyDeleteI loved that one! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm DYING to read The Versions of Us, but it's not out in the U.S. yet. I hope you love it!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a summer reading list yet, although i'd probably reread a few of my favorites from last summer and read "the night we said yes"
