Firelight, the first in Sophie Jordan's Firelight series was a joy to read, and went straight on my 2011 favourites list. With hot guys like Will and Cassian to swoon over, and a great female protagonist in Jacinda, I couldn't wait to see who Sophie Jordan would pick for her perfect Firelight movie cast.
The movie rights to this one have been snapped up (I can't wait to see some draki action on the big screen!), so it will be interesting to see if any of Sophie's movie cast picks make it to the big screen version!
Over to Sophie:
Over to Sophie:
I had certain actors in my head as I was writing Firelight. Sometimes I envision a certain celebrity (or even a person I know) in order to have a visual point of reference. I feel it makes for more realistic writing. That said, I have no idea who might actually be cast in these roles should Firelight reach the big screen – and yes, it’s in the process of development right now!
I have no doubt Mandalay will pick a wonderful cast ... but imagining who gets to play the roles is half the fun! So here’s what I got:
Jacinda: When I wrote Firelight, I always pictured a young Mila Jovovich in my head. Yes, I know she’s too old for the role, but she has such screen presence, not to mention she’s striking and unique looking. Also, Jacinda is a bit of a hybrid. She’s tough and tomboyish but also feminine. For me, that screams Milla Jovovich.
Cassian: While I had no specific person in my head as I wrote Cassian, I know how he looks, and when I recently saw actor Thomas McDonell on TV, he jumped out as a very close fit. He’s got that dark broody thing going for him.
Catherine: As I wrote the character of Catherine, I had two people in mind. She’s a cross between my sassy-beyond-her-years-6-year-old daughter and actress Kat Dennings. Dennings has a very memorable smoky drawl – just like Catherine in Firelight.
Severin: Who else could I have pictured but Jeremy Irons? Ooooh, that voice ... and what other actor has the ability to pull off such understated menace?
Sophie's Firelight Movie Cast! |
I think a young Mila Jovovich is a great pick for Jacinda, although she's not going to be able to play her in the movie! I can't wait to see who's cast as Will!
Stop by Dark Readers tomorrow for the next stop on the Firelight blog tour where you'll get to read an interview with Sophie Jordan.
Great picks! Young Mila Jovovich sounds like a good choice for Jacinda. As for Jeremy Irons - he's great in anything he does! :)
ReplyDeleteI need to read this book, so I can give my opinion about the cast. ;) I have to look Jeremy Irons up, I don't know him.. Shame on me!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Jeremy Irons would be perfect for Severin! And I adore Milla Jovovich, maybe she could be worked in the movie somewhere since she's a little older than Jacinda:)
ReplyDeleteI've never read this yet, but it's on my TBR list. But any book that has a Milla Jovovich-like character is A-ok in my book! My first email address was an homage to her!
ReplyDeleteI can't say yet whether I think they are great choices as I haven't read the book. It is on my tbr soon shelf though :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book yet. It's on my TBR list. I've never cared Milla Jovovich as an actress. I know she's in a lot of independent films and the Resident Evil franchise. Hmmm. Interesting movie cast!
