You've heard of eye candy, and maybe you've heard of brain candy, now I'm here to introduce Cover Candy! If it's a book cover that I'm swooning over, I might feature it here! I love finding new books, especially those with gorgeous covers, but I can't feature them all as my Waiting on Wednesday picks, so I decided to dedicate this feature to them instead!
What do you think? Find any new books to add to your insane TBR pile?
My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares
Publisher: Hodder Paperbacks
Release date: January 20 2011 (first published June 1st 2010)
From the New York Times-bestselling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, inspired, magical book-a love story that lasts more than a lifetime.
Daniel has spent centuries falling in love with the same girl. Life after life, crossing continents and dynasties, he and Sophia (despite her changing name and form) have been drawn together-and he remembers it all. Daniel has "the memory", the ability to recall past lives and recognize souls of those he's previously known. It is a gift and a curse. For all the times that he and Sophia have been drawn together throughout history, they have also been torn painfully, fatally, apart. A love always too short.
Interwoven through Sophia and Daniel's unfolding present day relationship are glimpses of their expansive history together. From 552 Asia Minor to 1918 England and 1972 Virginia, the two souls share a long and sometimes torturous path of seeking each other time and time again. But just when young Sophia (now "Lucy" in the present) finally begins to awaken to the secret of their shared past, to understand the true reason for the strength of their attraction, the mysterious force that has always torn them apart reappears. Ultimately, they must come to understand what stands in the way of their love if they are ever to spend a lifetime together.
A magical, suspenseful, heartbreaking story of true love, My Name is Memory proves the power and endurance of a union that was meant to be.
This is the new UK paperback cover for My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares - this was one of my favourite books of 2010, and I love this new cover. I will be picking up a copy. That leaves me in a total conundrum when the next book in the series releases in hardcover though. I like to have all my series covers matching! When is the next book in this series anyway? Has anyone heard anything about it?
Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
Publisher: Scholastic UK
Release date: July 12th 2011.
Ages: 13+
The thrilling conclusion to #1 bestselling Wolves of Mercy Falls trilogy from Maggie Stiefvater.
In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. In Linger, they fought to be together. Now, in Forever, the stakes are even higher than before. Wolves are being hunted. Lives are being threatened. And love is harder and harder to hold on to as death comes closing in
While I loved Shiver, Linger left me a little lukewarm, however I can't wait to read the conclusion to Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I adore the UK cover for this one. So, so, so pretty!
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
Release date: September 27th 2011.
Ages: 14+
Mara wakes up from a coma with no memory of the accident that caused the deaths of her best friend, boyfriend, and boyfriend's sister. The doctors tell her parents that starting over in a new state, a new school will be good for her and to let the memories come back on their own. But Mara's new start is anything but when she sees the faces of her dead friends everywhere and her world is falling apart. And then she begins to see people's deaths before they happen - at least she thinks that is what is happening. On top of that, the most beautiful boy she has ever seen can't seem to leave her alone, but is his agenda more than he leads on?
I hadn't heard of this book before the cover reveal last week, but I think you'll all agree that both the cover and the synopsis of this one are pretty great! This is definitely going on my wish list for 2011!
* Please note: Not all of these covers are final and may be subject to change. If the cover is changed, I will update with the new cover!
I love the covers, but what I noticed was that the story of my name is memory sounds just like Fallen I don't know if you read that book?
ReplyDeleteanyway as I said before the covers are beautiful
I'm not sure about that My Name is Memory cover yet, there's three different ones and I don't think I like any of them...the others are awesome :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete@BookGirl - I've never read Fallen. I've always meant to check out the series, though. My name is memory is all about reincarnation & soulmates - it's a really good read!
ReplyDelete@Cindy - This is the only cover of My Name is Memory that I really like. The others didn't do much for me, although I liked the UK hardcover better than the US.
All the covers are gorgeous. My favourite is The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. It kind of looks like the guy is saving the girl :)
ReplyDeleteI'm amused by your comment about loving Shiver and not Linger. I barely got through Shiver and the only reason I picked Linger up was because Maggie was doing a talk with Jennifer Lynn Barnes in the town next to mine and I thought I should be up to date with the books. I actually loved Linger and I'm really excited for Forever now! And it is a beautiful cover!
ReplyDeleteI like the new cover of My Name is Memory.I have both Shiver and Linger but due to the mixed reactions , I haven't read them yet. The third book's cover does look pretty though.
ReplyDeleteI really like My Name is Memory. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is very different. It definitely goes with the book. My TBR pile is very insane! I LOVE the cover of Die for Me. But the one I recently found I think is neat is Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey. Thank Goodness it comes out in Dec!
ReplyDelete@BookGirl -- I thought the exact same thing! My Name is Memory sounds just like Fallen, complete with the name Daniel and Lucy (well, Luce in Fallen) as the main characters... she's always born again and they fall in a tragic love each time... It sounds slightly different, buuuut >_> I don't know. And the cover is also in a forest with black birds or what-not.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless - it sounds good. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing!
I've actually come across concepts fairly similar to My Name is Memory besides Fallen such as Reincarnation by Suzanne Weyn.
ReplyDeleteThe new cover is gorgeous! Kind of reminds me of Fallen a little bit though haha with the brooding girl and all the dark blue.
I have read My Name is Memory - it is brilliant :D Cant wait for the next one but I cant seem to find out when it is being published (:
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Leanna! I love the font on My Name is Memory, it's gorgeous. And The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer looks so good, I wish it came out a bit sooner:) Thanks for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteI reckon if you loved My name is Memory then you'll probably loved Fallen. I loved Fallen and am dying to read My name is Memory too - the softcover is absolutely gorgeous! I think I'll wait for this one to hit the stores and then get hold of a copy! Love the UK cover for Maggie Stiefvater's Forever!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks, all three of those are gorgeous covers! I would love to have framed poster sized pictures of my favorite covers to hang in my house...I wonder if you can get those made anywhere???
ReplyDeleteThe UK covers always seem to look better than their US versions to me. I haven't heard of My Name is Memory for some reason (weird I know since it's by Brashares) but now I'm going to have to check it out since it sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I like the plot for My Name is Memory, but I do love the cover. The other cover it has is so different and really doesn't do much for me. The one you posted is pretty and makes me want to read the book.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book rec's guys - I love the subject matter of reincarnation, so I will have to check out Fallen now (another series to add to my list!), and I'll check out the Suzanne Weyn book too!
ReplyDeleteThey’re all so pretty! The Unbecoming is seriously stunning. Now I want to read that one bad.
