NUMBER ONE
No review for this one yet, as I read it just last week, but Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, one of my final reads of 2012 was also the best. I literally couldn't put this book down until I was done with it. Expect my review early in 2013. I can't wait for the movie of this one!
What I Said:
Hands down the hottest book I’ve read all year.
On Dublin Street is a book with heart, and it is clearly written from the heart too.

An outstanding debut.
Brodi Ashton writes from the heart, never skimming the surface of raw emotion.
Everneath gets ALL THE STARS from me.

Number Eight: Until I Die (Revenants #2) by Amy Plum.

What I Said:
Complex, creepy and all consuming.
I totally lost my heart to Noah Shaw.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is dark, haunting, atmospheric and eerie.

What was your favourite book of 2012? What do you think of my list?
I'm a little surprised by the number of Contemps on there --a couple years ago I'd never read a YA Contemp and look at me now! I still haven't read any Sarah Dessen though, so I am still very much a YA Contemp novice!
The One That Got Away in 2011:
Because there's always one that gets away! I didn't get around to reading Divergent by Veronica Roth until this year, so I couldn't include it on my 2011 list, but now I've read it and I loved it, so it gets a special mention here!
The One I'll Be Reading in 2013.
Actually, there are two. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein appeared on almost every end of year list I've seen, so I simply must check both of those books out in 2013. I've heard some amazing things!
If your favourite book of 2012 is not on my list, let me know in comments and I might just check it out next year!
----------
I've only read three from your list! We'll Always Have Summer (loved!) and The Unbecoming of Mara and Pushing the Limits (disliked both).
ReplyDeleteI also can't wait for you to read Code Name Verity and TFiOS - both awesome books!!
We'll Always Have Summer was perfect! I know MARA was hit and miss for a lot of people! Everyone keeps telling me I *must* read TFiOS so I'll have to get to it soon!
ReplyDeleteOoooo you've got some of my favorites listed there too Leanna! I just adored On Dublin Street, that's one I will be reading again and again:) Everneath blew me away as well, and I can't wait to get my hands on Neverfall and follow Cole for a bit. I find him intriguing:)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for Gone Girl. It will definitely be among my early 2013 reads! You should definitely read TFIOS in 2013. It's on my list, too:')
ReplyDeleteMy favourite is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. Fault in Stars made my list, you will enjoy it, it will pass the test of time for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat there's a movie planned for Gone Girl? How did I not know this??? I can't wait for it or your review! The Summer series by Jenny Han, is my ultimate favourite, I can never choose between the books though! The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and Everneath are books I've been meaning to read for ages! I definitely will be adding to them to my list for next year! A great list Leanna, thanks for sharing it with us! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your list!! Rage Within, Pushing the Limits, a Everneath... yes!
ReplyDeleteGone Girl was one of my very favorite reads in 2012. I recommend it all the time. I am currently listening to the audio of TFIOS and I think it will be on my list. Have you read The Language of Flowers? It was also one of my favs.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I can't wait to find out more about Cole!
ReplyDeleteGone Girl is such a good read. Hope you enjoy it! I'll definitely check out TFIOS soon!
ReplyDeleteYes!! I think Reese Witherspoon is producing, although not sure if she's starring. I'm not sure she'd really fit the role.... The Last book in the Summer series is my fave. It's just so perfect! Mara and Everneath are both great reads!
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of the same favorites...but that comes as no surprise to me. :) You know I loved We'll Always Have Summer, Until I Die, Mara Dyer, Pushing the Limits, Wanderlove...the list goes on! I thought I was the last person to have NOT read The Fault in Our Stars. I plan on reading it ASAP! I haven't read Everneath- but definitely intrigued especially since it's one of your favorites! Great list, Leanna!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Language of Flowers, but I have a copy somewhere, so I'll have to get to it soon. I thought Gone Girl was amazing -- can't wait to read the rest of her books!
ReplyDeleteI knew we'd have a lot of the same faves! I need to go check out your end of year round up too! Everneath was a great favourite of mine - can't wait to read the next book! :)
ReplyDeleteGosh I loved Divergent. Insurgent got away from me this year. I had it in my hands several times but never read. Good thing we have a whole new year to read!
