Academy of Art University Makes a Program Announcement & Announces Student Honors | AD

The Academy of Art University is a private university that was founded in 1929 and is located in San Francisco, California. The school has an enrollment of over 12,000 students studying in over 30 different programs. The university's programs are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

One of the schools within the university is the School of Fashion. Recently, several students of this school were honored for their outstanding fashion design work.

Susan Zienty received the Kenneth Cole Footwear Innovation Award presented by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Ms. Zienty's footwear designs are based upon ideas from her time within the foster care system. She calls her collection Adolescent Anonymous. This award comes with a $50,000 prize which the recipient will use to develop her work.

Academy of Art student Cameron Orland received the Liz Claiborne Design Scholarship Award which was also awarded by the Fashion Designers of America. For consideration for this award, a variety of students were asked to present a fashion portfolio to a panel of judges in New York City. After the judging was completed, the students were given tours of prestigious design houses within the area.

Cameron Orland received a scholarship worth $25,000 as the winner. Cameron Orland will be able to use the scholarship to pursue additional educational opportunities.

This summer, 12 recent graduates from the Academy of Art University were allowed to present portfolios of their work in New York at the Fashion Future Graduate Showcase. Only 53 students from around the country were allowed to participate in this prestigious event.

The graduates who were a part of this event were able to receive guidance and a critique on their portfolios. The experts on the panel were able to discuss with each graduate what aspects worked in the portfolio and what aspects needed additional work.

After the Fashion Future Graduate Showcase was completed, the graduates from the Academy of Art and the other schools put on a fashion show. Zhouyi Li from the Academy of Art was the featured graduate. Li's designs were inspired by the sculptures of a noted artist.

While this news of the accomplishments of recent and current students is important for the Academy of Art, it isn't all the good news that is happening for the university. Recently, the university started a program in footwear and fashion design. This program will allow admittance to 120 bachelor-level students and 60 masters-level students each year. This summer, the program received its full accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

The first students in this footwear design program will start their academic careers at the university in the fall semester of 2018. The program will provide information to students on design and how to market their designs.

Damion Le Cappelain will be the director of the footwear design program. Before coming to the Academy of Art University, he was affiliated with the Royal College of Art in London as well as the Savannah College of Art and Design.
