Some Blog Changes for 2012 & a 'Bucket List' Reading Challenge!

Happy New Year again!

Just a quick post to list some changes on the blog for 2012. I want to free up some time to get working on my NaNoWriMo project, so while I'll still be blogging away I've had to make some cuts! Just small cuts though, don't worry!

I won't be posting my Month in Review anymore. This is a post that takes more time than you would think to put together, so I'm saying bye bye to it in 2012.  I might bring it back in the future, but for now the archive or list of reviews at the top of the page are the places to go to check out past reviews.

I'll no longer be announcing competition winners on the blog, but will be posting winners on Facebook and Twitter. I'll also email the winners, of course.

I'll be utilising Facebook a lot more in 2012, so if you want to see new book covers, trailers etc. that is the place to go. I'll be cutting down on book news/covers/trailers posts on the blog, but I'll be posting them on Facebook (in other words, if you want to like the blog on Facebook, that would be very cool!)

I've also cut way back on review acceptances (I think I've accepted two review pitches since September!) and even at that I still have a backlog of books to work through, so for now I'm not accepting review copies (apart from the publishers I'm already working with). I'll hopefully be open to review copies around March time once I've caught up with my reading.

This brings me to the Bucket List reading challenge. I have a ton of books on my shelves that have been there for over two years, and left to my own devices, I will never get around to reading them.

Thankfully, Jamie from The Eclectic Bookshelf  thought of this great challenge idea:

The 2012 "Bucket List" Reading Challenge is the challenge to sign up for if YOU have a list of books that you are dying to read but just haven't gotten to them yet.  The rules are simple for this challenge and I've also included a couple of sample "Bucket" Lists to provide a good starting point.  NOTE:  The link titled "Bucket List" Books is a list that I created and if you would like to add books to that list I encourage you to.

Rules:

1. Challenge starts on January 1, 2012 and goes until December 31, 2012.

2. You don't need a blog to participate.

3. Create a "sign up" post and link to the linky below.

4. There are 4 levels to this challenge....

      a. The Mini Cooper level - 4 "bucket" list books
      b. The Mid-sized Sedan level - 8 "bucket" list books
      c. The Pick Up level - 12 "bucket" list books
      d. The Semi level - 13 or more "bucket" list books

NOTE:  I am adding a stipulation to this challenge.  If you originally decided to start small with the Mini Cooper level and decide to upgrade that is fine.  But once you decide to go big you can NOT downgrade.

5. Each month a review link will be posted.  Please feel free to link up your reviews where ever you happen to post them...your blog, goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm going to opt for 'Level B' here and plan on reading eight bucket list books from my list.
You can see my Bucket List: here
As an added incentive I've put myself on a book buying ban, but for every Bucket List book I read, I get to buy a book from my wish list. :)

Wish me luck!

  1. Happy New Year, L!

I too want to start utilizing the social networks more, kind of my goal for 2012. It's so great to see that you're running strong, even though some stuff is going to be discontinued for now.

What a great challenge idea! I might sign-up.

  2. Sounds like a good plan of attack for maximizing your time. Bummer to hear though that a lot of stuff will be announced on Facebook rather than here since I don't really use FB (and honestly don't have the desire to be on there). Hopefully there will still be good stuff for us on here, too?

  3. Happy New Year, A! :)

@Lori - I'm not the biggest fan of Facebook either (this is an understatement!) so while it's a quick and easy way to announce news and other bits, I'll still be keeping most of the good stuff on the blog. :)

  4. Happy New Year! Good luck with the challenge - I've got a bunch of books on my shelves that I've had for over a year too, so I can understand why you want to get through them! :P

  5. I'm going to start doing a month in review post this year! If I don't like it, I'll just stop. Ooh and I liked your FB page.

  6. Happy New Year! I'd really like to be able to utilize Facebook more. I might e-mail you about some advice, if that's okay?

  8. Happy new year! Your changes sound like all good ones (except Facebook! Aaah, you are going to make me have to get an account because I love your cover posts :P )

I'll be doing the Bucket List challenge too. I let myself get so distracted by all the new books coming out last year that I ended up neglecting all of the old ones I've been meaning to read for years. I'm curious to see what books you'll read for the challenge. Good luck!

  10. I'll still be doing the Cover Candy posts on here, Small. I couldn't let those go! I sometimes get sent info that doesn't really merit a whole blog post, so that's what I'll be saving for Facebook. :)
