NaNoWriMo 2011 - I'm a Winner!!

 Yay! I did it!

NaNoWriMo 2011 proved to be third time lucky for me. This is the first time I've ever actually written a word towards NaNoWriMo but I first signed up in 2009, and then I thought about it again last year. I guess this year I was ready!

To everyone who got to 50k this year - Congratulations! It was touch and go with me for a while, but I got a writing spurt a few nights back and wrote 5k in two hours and that's what saved me.  Then, and yes, you'll laugh, when I went to validate my novel yesterday I missed a chunk of paragraphs at the end of my WIP (this tells you what a mess my WIP is!) and ended up with 48,000 words instead of 50,000. Panic stations! It was pointed out to me on twitter though that this shouldn't have really happened, so I went and double checked, and phew, I made it!

If you didn't get to 50k this year - then better luck next year and be proud of those words you did write!

What do I do now?

I'm going to re-read my 50k in a few days and see if it all makes any sense to me. I know it's a total mess right now, and the story is totally unfinished but maybe there's something there...you never know. I'll keep working on it!

Also, now the search for the hot boys name begins. I've already brainstormed with my sister and we came up with nothing that suits him just right. My boyfriend told me to call him Ernest(?!!) I think naming him could take forever!

Will I do NaNoWriMo 2012?

Yes, I think so! I thought it was a lot of fun!

Did you participate in NaNoWriMo 2011?
How was it for you?
What's next for your novel?

Oooh, and look! I got this pretty certificate too.
I think I should frame it! ;)

To anyone who left encouraging comments and helpful advice on my NaNo progress reports - Thank You! It all helped! :)

  1. Congratulations, doll! <3

P.S. Ernest always makes me think "Hemingway," and whenever there's a character by that name, I instantly think of a quite old guy with a beard, lol!

I'll go ahead and suggest Kurt and Nathaniel (Nate) as hot guy names.

  2. ^ My sister suggested Nate too! Maybe I should put that one on the shortlist!

  3. Congrats! I totally failed nanowrimo but I'm glad I took part because I'm proud of what I did write and I'll just keep writing a little every day :) Good luck with the rest of the novel and coming up with the hot boys name haha.

  7. Awesome job Leanna! Congratulations on making 50k, that's fabulous:) Naming a character would be virtually impossible for me, I'd probably change their name every day until the day I actually had to submit the manuscript. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  8. Congrats!
I managed to complete too, but was a very last hurdle, I did 9,000 words in six hours on the last day. Just crossed the 50k mark in time! But was worht it. haven't finished my story though, so I will keep writing and then re-read and edit. :D

  9. Congrats! It's such a rush pushing the validate button, isn't it? I was so excited I got up and made my daughter dance with me.
And I nominate the name Lucas. My MMC is named Luca and at the moment I am in love with all all the variations of it.

  10. Thanks for the congrats and well done to everyone who got to 50k! Good on you for getting there on the last day Bex! That was quite a final push!

@AshHadAns - That's funny. I was going over a couple of scenes last night and the name Luke seemed to attach itself to him! Maybe that's the one!!

And yes, pushing the validate button is such a rush. Well, it was the second time I did it after messing up the c&p first time! :D

  11. Congratulations!
I failed miserably this year, work ate all my time (sad excuse, I know). But I still like the premises of my story and I'll pick it up again eventually ;)

  12. Congrats! Your the first person I know whose ever completed it! Well done you!

  13. Congrats! Glad you had fun as well :). Good luck with the name search (please don't choose Ernest. When I think Ernest, I think of a man with a walking stick, a pipe and a monocle with a black hat and green velvet jacket :P).

  14. Congrats on finishing NaNo! I chose not to participate this year because I already had a novel in progress and two coming out in January (yay editing hell!) . But the awesome part of NaNo is that you're halfway there to having a full novel, and you've proven to yourself that no matter what's going on in your life, you can always squeeze in time for writing!

    Smiles!

  18. That's so awesome Leanna. I have to admit that as much as I wanted to take part this year I just didn't have the time to. Oh well, maybe next year. Very, very impressed you made target though - I know many people who haven't.
