What I said:
A powerful and heartbreaking book...one that details a defining, but often overlooked period of history.
Sepetys prose is simple and sparse...marvelously suited to this story that although harrowing, is also somehow beautiful.
This is a story that deserves to be told, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
What I said:
Ghostly, gothic, haunting and menacing, this book reeled me in and didn’t let me go until I was done.

Tighter is spooky, shocking and unputdownable. It will play on your mind long after you finish it. A must read!
What I said:
...an intense, exciting slice of apocalyptic awesomeness...
A survival story with chaos, anarchy murder and mayhem at its core, Dark Inside is not for the faint of heart, but since horror is my first love, I couldn’t get enough of this book!
Read this book... It will make you so happy!
The One I'll be reading in 2012:
What I said:
The boys of Unearthly are to die for.
In Unearthly, Cynthia Hand combines romance, mystery, intrigue, wonderful plot twists that I so didn’t predict, and great characters that I truly warmed to.
An intoxicating blend of action and romance, Angel Fire is an impeccably researched and beautifully written book which is an emotional rollercoaster of a ride from start to finish.
What I said:
If you loved Angel, you will adore Angel Fire.
#6 - Clarity by Kim Harrington
#7 - Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
#8 Passion by Lauren Kate
#9 - Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson
#10 Hunting Lila by Sarah Alderson

The One that got away in 2010:
Released in late 2010, I didn't get around to reading ANNA until 2011 and it fast became one of my all time favourite books, hence the honourable mention!
What I said:
The One I'll be reading in 2012:
Whenever I admit I haven't read Divergent my book buddies tend to react with complete shock, disbelief even, and at this point I really feel like I'm missing out. Dystopian fiction isn't a huge favourite genre of mine (even though it's so hot right now, I know, I know!), but I've heard such good things about this one that I'll just have to check it out!
What do you think of my choices!
What was your favourite book of 2011?
I read Anna in 2011 too! Was definitely one of my favourite reads. I really loved Dark Inside and Unearthly as well, and Divergent was my favourite book of the year! I do love dystopian though - I really hope you like it! Great list :).
ReplyDeleteYay for the amazing Amy and Roger! Great list!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I really liked ALL the books on your list as well (even though some didn't quite make my top 10!) and I have Tighter, Shades, and Darker Inside on my TBR list as well. I think we had a mind meld!
ReplyDeleteGreat picks. :)
Daughter of Smoke and Bone is one of the books I couldn't get to this year so I will be sure to read it next month. Great list! I loved Between Shades of Gray, Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, and Anna and the French Kiss (I read it in 2011 too).
ReplyDeleteShhh...I haven't read Divergent either! I do own a copy so like you I plan to get around to it sometime in 2012...
ReplyDeleteI have heard such amazing things about Between Shades of Gray!! It sounds like such an emotionally moving novel, I have GOT to read it next year. Same with you, I didn't read Anna until early 2011 and HAPPY SIGH. Stephanie Perkins is officially one of my favourite authors. She is the Queen of contemporary romance <3 I so so so agree with Unearthly (Tucker!), DOSAB (one of my all-time faves) and Hunting Lila!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am really tempted to do the whole 'JAW DROP, WHAT THE HECK? YOU HAVEN'T READ DIVERGENT YET?!" thing, but since you're making it a goal to read in 2012, I will resist. It really is an incredible book. I so hope you enjoy it! Love your list :)
Tighter sounds amazing. Daughter of Smoke and Bone is on many lists, i'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year
Also read ANNA this year! Such a happy-making book. :)
ReplyDeleteAaah! I haven't read ANY of these yet, though I a few of them are sitting on my shelf. I need to get on that...
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I agree about Unearthly and Anna---both are my favorites. I meant to read Between the Shades this year, but never got around to it. I hope I can in 2012. Can't wait to hear your thoughts about Divergent---it kept me on the edge of my seat!! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteGREAT list! I loved Unearthly, didn't read Anna and fall in love with it until 2011 as well! And I'll definitely be reading Divergent in 2012 as well since I didn't get a hold of it in 2011.
ReplyDeleteOMG yes, you NEED to read Divergent!!!!!! I really enjoyed Anna and the French Kiss and Hunting Lila, as Unearthly are two of my favourites. I really need to read Between Shades of Gray soon, it sounds like a great read.
