The blogosphere is a-buzz with love for this book, and according to readers of this blog it's one of the most anticipated YA debuts for 2011! Unearthly is available to request from HarperTeen on Netgalley, so if you're interested, you can read it for free! I've just put my request in and I hope I get approved! If you've already read this one, I'd love to know what you thought!
Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release date: January 4th 2011.
Ages: 12+
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what it is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place--and out of place, at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make--between honesty and deciet, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Since I love book covers, and I especially like seeing different vesions of book covers from around the world, I thought I'd post the Australian edition of this one. Pretty, isn't it! Which cover do you like best?
Ooh I'd not seen the trailer or the Aussie cover before! I adore this book, it's my joint #1 favourite read of the year (and possibly not joint...) I could not put it down!! I love the trailer, and that Aussie cover is stunning as well! Love her hair, very fitting! I think I prefer the US cover, but it's a close call.
ReplyDeleteI love that the Australian book cover isn't as monochromatic as the US one. But I really do love them both!
ReplyDeleteI do love them both but I think I prefer the US cover. Only just though.
ReplyDeleteBoth covers are gorgeous, but I’m digging the red dress on the Australian cover.
ReplyDeleteLove the Australian cover and to be honest this is the first time the book has caught my attention. I've seen it lots in the blogosphere but I really don't like the US cover at all...hate to say it but it looks cheap to me =(
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the Aussie cover better, though I like the font on the US version, the monochromatic image has never done much for me. I love the vibrant read against the black and orange. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe Australian cover is truly amazing! :0
ReplyDeleteI had not seen the trailer before. Thanks for sharing!
@Angelique - I pretty much feel the same way as you about the US cover. It doesn't really appeal to me, and I wasn't going to read the book, but I've read so many great reviews, that now I want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite covers of 2010 was for Halo by Alexandra Adornetto, but the book was possibly also my biggest letdown of the year, so maybe this cover is hiding a great read! :)
Wonderful trailer! Love the cover, too. The UK and Australia always have cool covers! Sometimes better than the US.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading this, and I'm recommending that everybody should read it. It's simply wonderful!!
