Deception (Haunting Emma #1)Bloomsbury Childrens BooksHardcover, 336 pages.Release date: June 8th 2010 (US) / July 5th 2010 (UK)
Target Age Group: Young Adult.
When Emma Vaile's parents go missing while away on a mysterious business trip, her brother's very cute best friend, Bennett Stern—Emma's knight in J. Crew armor—arrives unexpectedly to whisk her away to New England. There, Emma settles into his family's museum-like mansion and enrolls at an old-fashioned private school. Emma has memories of Thatcher that she can't explain—it's as if she's returning home to a place she's never been. Finally, Emma confides in Bennett and learns she is a ghostkeeper, a person who can communicate with ghosts. Bennett brought Emma to Thatcher to protect her, but now he needs her help tracking an other-worldly murderer.
This sounds like a fun new series, and I look forward to checking it out. I reckon a few of you US bloggers have gotten review copies already since the US release date is only days away, so if you've read it, let me know your thoughts. Let me know what you think of the cover art too! Share your WoW picks in comments.
I'll admit that the summary sounds very interesting, but that cover is horrible. It's like the artist was stuck in the early '90s or something. It does nothing to draw a reader in.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that's just what I think.
Oooh, I want to know what everybody thinks of the cover! To be honest, I don't mind it - I like the gothic mansion that's on there, but I think they could have used a different girl, or made her less imposing.
ReplyDeleteI think this book sounds very interesting and I'd definitely be keen to read it. Like you, I actually don't mind the cover - but I do think more focus could have been given to the mansion instead of the girl - she takes up way too much space.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely on my WoW list. I have already seen some reviews from blogger lucky enough to score an ARC. Great choice.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very interesting. It seems there quite a few ghost books coming out this summer. I don't mind the mansion in the background either, but the girl is too large in relation to it. And I wonder if her necklace/pendant will be important to the story, because it seems to be highlighted.
ReplyDeleteOh! I had this one as my WoW pick a few weeks back. I love ghost stories! Good pick!
ReplyDeletei've never heard of this series, but it sounds great! i liked meg cabot's mediator series, so i have a feeling i'll like this one, too :)
ReplyDeleteI love books about communicating with ghosts. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting on The Iron Thorn here.
Happy reading. :)

Lisa & Laura Roecker recommended the book to me, and they haven't been wrong yet about the books they gush to me about.
ReplyDeleteNice find. My WOW is at The Crowded Leaf.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of it! But sounds good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog
I hadn't seen this one before and am happy to see a WoW that we can get our hands on soon - great choice! - Jessica
ReplyDeleteOur pick is at BookSake.
I read and reviewed this one. I was impressed. It’s a great start to what I think will be a fun trilogy.
ReplyDelete@Christie - that's good to hear!
ReplyDelete@Serpentine Librarian - I was thinking the same thing about the pendant. It does seem to stand out!
I hadn't heard of this one, but it sounds great! I like a ghost story. I'm not fussed either way on the cover tbh. I don't hate it but don't love it either.
ReplyDeleteThat does sound really interesting, I don't know if I like the whole cover, but I do like the girls necklace :) I will have to look into this series.
