End of Year Survey Results: Your Top Books of 2014 and the Books You Can't Wait to Read in 2015!

Thanks to everyone who took part in my end of year survey: I'll be contacting the lucky winner very soon!

One thing that not the results, but the standard of entries in this years survey, told me is that I maybe need to change the format in which I conduct the survey - maybe pick a list of books that you can then vote for instead of letting you make your own choices! As it happened, this year I got a lot of entries that read: 'don't know', 'don't have any favourites,' 'don't know any debuts' - I shared a list of 2015 debuts at the end of the survey post(!) One entrant stated that they 'hadn't read any books in 2014.'  It also turns out that for one person the book they most want to read in 2015 is 'Twilight.' Oh, and if Gayle Forman's 'I Was Here' was a debut, then it probably would have featured in the list of debuts you most want to read in 2015. But that book is not a debut, people - nor are the multiple second and third in a series novels you voted for as debuts. Sheesh!

Here are the results - minus a LOT of spoiled entries.

Your Favourite Books of 2014

1. Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer
2. The One (The Selection #3) by Kiera Cass
3. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Honorable Mention: To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han.

Last Year's Winner: Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

Cress came in at #2 in the results of the 'most anticipated reads of 2014' section in last years list, so it's no surprise that the third installment in Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles got a lot of your votes. Interestingly, the winner of last years 'most anticipated' Isla and the Happily Ever After doesn't feature here at all. A lot of you loved The One by Kiera Cass - so I'm bumping that one up my TBR right now. We Were Liars was also a big hit with you guys (and the rest of the reading world!)

Your 'Most Wanted' Books of 2015

1. The Heir (The Selection #4) by Kiera Cass
2. Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4) by Marissa Meyer
3. The Winner's Crime (The Winner's Trilogy #2) by Marie Rutkoski

Honorable Mention: Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen

Last Year's Winner: Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

The most popular authors in this years survey were undoubtedly Kiera Cass and Marissa Meyer - lots and lots of votes for their books. The Winner's Trilogy books also proved popular with third place here - while The Winner's Curse came in at fifth in your favourite books of 2014. You also have room for a little contemp in between all that dystopian and fantasy fiction, with Sarah Dessen's Saint Anything bringing in the votes.

The 2015 YA Debuts You Can't Wait to Read

1. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
2. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
3. The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

Honorable Mention: My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga

Last Year's Winner: Alienated by Melissa Landers

This is my favourite category! I love seeing what debuts you guys want to read. Okay, so a lot of had spoiled votes on this one - by voting for books that are not debuts - but we still had a clear winner here. A very clear winner. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard was the runaway winner of this one. An Ember in the Ashes was also a popular pick, with The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey coming in third - the publishes are comparing this one to Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone no less!

I loved Cress, so it could be considered one of my favorite books of 2014! Of course, I'm excited for Winter, but not so much for the Heir. I'm just a little worried about extending the series which ended so well...As for the debut section, I really agree! It's going to be a really great year for releases!

  2. Cress was amazing! Definitely a favorite! I remember reading it immediately after it was released and staying up all night to finish it! :D I somehow had no idea that Sarah Dessen had a new book coming out! Now I'm all hyped up for it and I have to wait till May! :(

  3. Haha, I bet you were tearing your hair out over the results and trying to make sense of them! I haven't read Cress (or Scarlet) yet but I plan to asap. I really enjoyed The Winner's Curse but wouldn't put it in my favourite category. I am glad to see We Were Liars though :) I haven't actually heard of The Girl at Midnight but I'm interested now and I'm already excited about The Red Queen.

  4. It's really interesting to look at these, especially the debut novel picks like you said. And I have to agree, Red Queen does look really interesting!

I can't imagine how much work it is to compile this list for us and weed through the entries that don't apply…so thank you!! It's always interesting to find out the results. Very surprised by The Selection series being so popular. I liked it, but I liked it as a guilty pleasure. Have you read it? I wish I liked We Were Liars a bit more than I did…it seems everyone LOVED it. I haven't read any of Marissa Meyer's books…maybe I need to fix that! Happy New Year, Leanna, and thanks for sharing this with us!

  8. Ha! Yes - I don't know what was going on with some of the entries this year. I've been trying to think of a different format for the survey but I haven't come up with anything. I was thinking multiiple choice but then I don't know if I can make is so people *have* to vote - and if I don't make it so then people won't vote! Lol! Sorry for writing a book about that. If you have any suggestions, let me know!

  9. I've read the first two books in the Selection series. I like them, but they are not a total favourite. They were a popular pick in the poll, though! (despite all those spoiled votes!) I am with you on We Were Liars. Maybe we should read it again. Ha! Happy New Year to you too! :)
