Book Trailer: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon.

The first in a seven-book fantasy series from debut author Samantha Shannon, The Bone Season looks set to be a big hit when it publishes in August 2013.  The advance buzz is very promising for this one, it's already in movie development and I've heard Samantha being described in 'new J.K. Rowling' terms - so no pressure, huh!

I have to say, though, that the book trailer for this one has my interest piqued, and if you feel the same, you can go request a copy of the book on Netgalley now.

If you've already read The Bone Season, I'd love to know what you thought of it!

Advance Praise For The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon:

'Truly extraordinary and thrilling.' Andy Serkis

'A new breed of women authors are claiming fantasy as their own. Leading the charge is Samantha Shannon.' Harper's Bazaar

'A dark and exquisitely rendered fantasy unlike anything out there. The Bone Season is a must read.' Kami Garcia, co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series

'Samantha Shannon has a hugely inventive talent and an imagination with seven league boots. She's hit the ground running.' Susan Hill

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon || Release date: August 2013

The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut.

  1. Wow! I wasn't sure about this at first, but watching the trailer and reading Samantha's blog has totally won me over to the cause - I'll definitely be adding this one to my TBR list. Besides, if Andy Serkis likes it, you can't go far wrong!

  2. Also, is it just me or does the narrator sound a little like Merlin's Katie McGrath? A little bit Irish, a little bit elocution lesson - but all Paige!

I wasn't sure about it either - when I first read about this one I thought it would probably be a little too fantasy for me, but the trailer has definitely piqued my interest. It looks great!

I've never seen Merlin but I definitely got an Irish accent from the narrator of this one. :)

  5. I've got to say, having read an ARC, the book sadly doesn't live up to all the hype and expectation that's been weaved around it. It's imaginative, for sure, but too much of a "build up" novel, with little actually happening in the story (apart from a completely forced romance).

But I suppose if they keep calling every début female author "the next JK Rowling", they'll get it right one day!
