Book News: HarperCollins acquires The Dark Heroine: Dinner with a Vampire from teen author Abigail Gibbs!

The sexiest romance you’ll read this year…

One moment can change your life forever…

For Violet Lee, a chance encounter on a darkened street draws her into a world beyond her wildest imaginings, a timeless place of vast elegance and immeasurable wealth – of beautiful mansions and lavish parties – where a decadent group of friends live for pleasure alone. A place from which there is no escape… no matter how hard Violet tries.

Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.

Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price…

**************

Ooooh...I've been craving another vampire novel ever since I finished Rebecca Maizel's Stolen Night a couple weeks back, and I think this might just be it!

There's a lot of buzz surrounding The Dark Heroine: Dinner with a Vampire by Abigail Gibbs, not only because the author is just seventeen years old, but also because she already has a huge online following via Wattpad, where her work has over 17 million reads. Wow! Colour me impressed! If anyone has read the book on Wattpad or has reviews to share, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Abigail Gibbs started posting her writing on Wattpad in September 2009, and overnight she achieved 95 reads and three fans. For the past three years she has continued to post chapters of her novel The Dark Heroine: Dinner With a Vampire, on to the site and to date they have been read almost seventeen million times. Nearly 25,000 people have commented on her work and 91,000 people have voted for it, generating a truly global audience. None of her readers have yet to discover the breathtaking end to her novel which will be published in ebook and paperback format later this month.

Abigail Gibbs - “From first picking up a pen to writing online on wattpad, I have always aspired to see my work in print and I feel extremely privileged to have such an enthusiastic and supportive team behind The Dark Heroine at HarperCollins. I hope my experience as a teenage writer will inspire young people everywhere to develop the craft, even in the face of pesky distractions like school!”

  3. It was a great story. Once you read it, it becoming an addiction. Haha. There is time when sleep or work that you have to do... You want to continue reading it but...yeah, we're human being. We need that. My only description of it is ADDICTION. I thing she starting writing the novel, she was 13 yo. If I am not mistaken. Isn't it awesome? For teen that age to produce plotting that awesomeness? For me she is a very talented author! The novel itself sometime...when you read it, you can't help yourself but imagine it. You just get suck into her world. What's more? Once you'd read it, you can't help but reading it back. Again and again!!!

  5. I absolutely LOVED DWAV. I have read it at least three times, and I am dying to know what happens! It is really well written, and the characters are amazingly realistic. Abigail is an inspiration to all teen writers! I'm not kidding you, once you start you can't put it down. I think I was reading from about 6PM until 2PM and I woke my sister up just to tell her how amazing it was! The book, it just pulls you right in. The first chapter...line...word! Awesome.

  6. I absolutely ADORE Dinner With A Vampire, I've been following it ever since I first downloaded the Wattpad App on my iPod, it was the first book I read on it, and I was fascinated by it immediately.
The whole fact that it isn't like the other vampire stories is the best part, you never know what will happen next. The plot line twists, turns, and keeps you on your toes at all times, you are always left wondering, and when you think you've guessed the characters next move, you end up being left with your mouth hanging agape, because the change is so sudden you don't expect it at all.
I read the original draft up to chapter 61 on Wattpad, waiting patiently for every upload, waiting for a sign of her presence.
When I found out that she was publishing "Dinner...", I almost gave my mom a heart attack, the excitement of soon finally being able to hold all of her hard work in my small hands, was almost too much to bare.
She has so much talent, so much to give to us readers, and I hope she will never stop writing.

  8. its got a rough edge to it. contrary to twilight, where everything was practically almost fairy tale like (two guys after one girl, the classic bad guy, the guy that's too good for the girl), your characters seem more realistic. Kaspar's got a bad side too, one that he tries to rein in and sometimes lets loose for the hell of it. Violet is just some depressed teenager; she's got family issues, and is unsure of herself, but is still able to stand up for what she believes in. Alot of fiction tales make everything so unrealistic. I think Dinner With a Vampire just makes more sense than most fiction novels out there, and its what makes it more appealing; you show that people and creatures both have their good and bad sides, and it isn't easy to force someone to become something they're not.

i've read the unfinished book online countless times, and every time i enjoy it more. We are all really proud of Abbie, and many of us look up to her as a writer because she has accomplished what most people on Wattpad wish to accomplish. This book definitely has the potential to become something more, so I hope that more people know about it soon.

Congratulations Ms. Gibbs! You really are an inspiration to young aspiring writers. I love this story from the bottom of my heart and one of this young lady's fans. I knew that this author was beyond talented ever since I laid eyes on her work on Wattpad 2 and a half years ago. It was the 1st book I read on the website and is the sole reason I am addicted to the site. Every chapter uploaded by this author always kept me on my toes and in suspense. The story is really a journey of emotions, culture and fantasy. It's sexy, fresh, breathtaking and frankly quite genius- and I haven't even read the ending yet. The 1st comment I posted about this book was that it at par with the other award winning books remade into movies. I stand by that comment, but will add that this book might even be better than the others. It was quite a shock to find out that a 14 year old wrote the story I read long ago, but really, it just shows how talented our youth is today. I am looking forward to reading this book again plus it's very very well awaited ending. Thank you Abigail Gibbs for sharing your talent. You are a symbol of hope for writers on Wattpad. Hope that one day, their work will reach places. God speed Ms. Gibbs!

  11. DWAV is the most amazing novel you'll ever read. Even though I wasn't able to continue reading after chapter 62 on Wattpad I just know it's going to be great. I've had many favorite books but this one was MY type of book. It's story line is absolutely perfect and the way it's (or was) written is fun. Abigail Gibbs is truly amazing. I was hooked from the first line and wouldn't even do my homework just so I could finish! Even after the 62 chapters were done, I eagerly waited for the arrival of a new chapter and used the facebook group page just to fangirl with all the other supporters of DWAV. The feelings this novel has created inside of me is beyond unexplainable and I lovelovelovelovelove it! :D

  12. *SPOILER ALERT*

I am one of the early readers of this book on Wattpad. When I first stumbled upon this story, I thought "Hmmm. Let's see what the hype is all about." Guess what? My time wasn't wasted. I was lucky to discover this story.

I am not much of a fan when it comes to vampires. I have read the Twilight Saga for the sake of just finishing the story, because I can't take it when I started something but wasn't able to finish it. And I am happy to say that Dinner With a Vampire is much superior than the former.

It exhibits a much realistic approach to vampires: that they are notorious, lustful, cruel, and such. These vampires are the true vampires that you would have thought when you first heard the word. These are not the sparkly type. I'm sorry, but its hard not to compare it to Twilight. As it is the most famous of that genre. Don't take it the wrong way, I do not hate the Saga. But I don't like it either.

Gibbs obviously did her research. And she did it with such passion, as was her writing. For it was a very well-written work: the grammar, construction, description, settings, etc. And it was just the draft that I have read. She didn't just write the whole novel. Like, throw everything in the plot without considering the elements or myth.

All those months I thought she had abandoned the story, turned out that she was just finishing her first book for publication. And as a fan I am proud. That I have known Abigail Gibbs for as long as Canse12 existed on Wattpad.

As for the story, I bet you will like it. Kaspar truly is a figure of that very creature. Everything about him screams vampire. He is mysterious and sexy and very Damon-like. The whole vampiric community really is a timeless vast of elegance and immortality. They are a sophisticated society, full of luxury and traditions so rich that Violet herself will have admired.

The love-triangle isn't forced. The three of them make sense. The romance take their time to develop, there is no instant love. I like it.

Every character is a character. Each of them has their own personality. Strong personality.

Violet Lee. As she said, it was like 'Violently'. She's not the typical teenage girl that when abducted with vampires, will just sit in the corner of the room and cry for help. Or the girl that is so clumsy that I think she needs crutches for support. Or the girl that is so fascinated by their world that she herself likes to be turned into. Violet has tried resisting. Had it not been needed, had it not been for the prophecy, she would have stayed human forever. As much as she tries to resist, she is gradually succumbed to her new world. And she has no choice. But to do what has to be done.

Violet has her own will. She's strong, and almost doesn't fear the normal thing people would have feared. She has shown the daring side of her. Violet has learned how to cope up with situations. She's my ideal heroine.

I have said so much. But you get me, you get what I'm saying. And I hope this review encourage you more to read it. It's a must! I'm sure you wouldn't want to miss this one ;)

  14. Dinner with A Vampire is THE reason I am now on Wattpad. I remember downloading the app on my iPod, not really knowing what it was and one of the stories that it had was Dinner... Honestly at first I thought "God ANOTHER vampire book?" then I read it. As the chapters flew by I became more and more invested and in love with the characters, the plot, and just everything, everything about the story. Then I reached the last posted part and thinking that it was a published novel I began searching for it and getting nothing but links to Wattpad. I swear I've read this story about 10 times since the first time I read it and I really want to read what's next for Violet and Kasper since us Watty readers where left on a bit of a cliffhanger. I'm even breaking my own rule of not buying e-books so that I can read it as soon as it comes out instead of having to wait until the paperback comes out in the U.S - unless there's a kind person living in the U.K who's willing to send me a U.K version *wink, wink*.
Abigail Gibbs you are a star. And I wish you the best. :D

  16.  Me too! Do you know if there's going to be a third book. I loved how the last book ended but I haven't heard if the series is continuing.

  17.  Me too. There seems to be less vampire books around these days, but they are still a fave of mine! :)

  18. DWAV is a great book that is written by an amazing, and very nice author. This is not one of those, "I'm a vampire, look at the way I sparkle in the sun." kind of book. This book is dark, edgy and oh so addicting!

  19. DWAV is just... Amazing, aweful, inspiring... There are so many wonderful words to describe!
One is defiantly 'guilty'. I'm guilty of staying up all night to finish this amazing novel.

  20.  I love the sound of cliffhangers and excitement. Really looking forward to reading DWAV. Also I love this abbreviation as the full title takes a while to type out! ;)

  25. I love this book. I, 100%, love it and I'm not afraid to say it. Unlike other vampire stories this one has the vampires actually being in love but at the same time having a dark side. Some even have this side that's way too evil and just want Violet dead; all because of the death of the queen which was meant to happen because...oh gosh I just love it. I didn't sleep a lot because I stayed up to read this story, and once I was finished reading a chapter I was no longer tired because of the excitement that was in me all because of what I had just got done reading. This might sound like I'm exaggerating but I honestly got addicted to reading this story; always waiting and waiting for Abigail to upload her story so I would know and read what was going to happen next. And now :D She is getting published, congrats to her and I'll be one of those people buying the book just to finish what I began reading to an awesome beginning all the way to a great ending. Great story. Very breath taking.

  26. This is actually the first book I came across on Wattpad, and after the first chapter, I was hooked. It's different from other vampire romances, so it really stands out as unique. I'm grateful to come across such a masterpiece... I remember following the story from Day 1, anxiously waiting for updates. Oh! I can't wait! I have to buy it. :)

  27. Oh no, I thought it was a trilogy? It took forever for book 2 to come out ;(

  28.  I know. :( I presumed it was a trilogy too, but I haven't actually heard anything official about a third book. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for news. If you hear anything let me know! :)

  29. This is an awesome book! I call myself her #1 fan!!! Abbie is very talented and I continue to believe this book will be in the top of New York's Best Seller very soon!

  30. I started reading DWAV last year and instantly feel in love it it. I was hooked on it and could not stop reading. It took me three days to finish DWAV until I had to wait for Abby to update the story again. I first thought it was going to be cheesy but it was fantastic! Everything is more than just your regular vampire story with the jerk and the girl falling for each other. It's goes deep into loyalty between her heart and her family. Her challenges reach out into us fan and make us think what would we do in her place.

  32. I'm not a fan of TDH in Wattpad, which really disappoint me as a lot of readers in Wattpad loved it so much, though I've to say the concept was good. I'm hoping for something more from TDH now that it's under HC - going through all the editing process - absolutely hoping for a bigger changes and improvement in the story. I'm totally waiting for the paperback edition. :]
