Guest Post: Debut Authors Jodi Meadows & Megan Miranda on their Top Reads for 2012!

Their upcoming debuts Incarnate and Fracture both made the list of the YA debut novels you most want to read in 2012. Now find out what these Delightful Debutantes have put on their reading wish lists for 2012!

Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
Publisher: Harper Collins
Release date: January 2012

Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

Jodi Says: I'm excited about so many 2012 books we'd be here all day if I tried to mention all of them. But here are a few: Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock, a debut that looks both romantic and scary; Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins, the final book in a series I utterly love; Timepiece by Myra McEntire, the second book in a wonderful series involving time travel and kissing; and Defiance by C.J. Redwine, a debut fantasy that sounds like it's right up my alley.

Fracture by Megan Miranda
Publisher: Walker & Co.(US)/Bloomsbury (UK)
Release date: January 2012.

Eleven minutes passed before Delaney Maxwell was pulled from the icy waters of a Maine lake by her best friend Decker Phillips. By then her heart had stopped beating. Her brain had stopped working. She was dead. And yet she somehow defied medical precedent to come back seemingly fine-despite the scans that showed significant brain damage. Everyone wants Delaney to be all right, but she knows she's far from normal. Pulled by strange sensations she can't control or explain, Delaney finds herself drawn to the dying. Is her altered brain now predicting death, or causing it?

Then Delaney meets Troy Varga, who recently emerged from a coma with similar abilities. At first she's reassured to find someone who understands the strangeness of her new existence, but Delaney soon discovers that Troy's motives aren't quite what she thought. Is their gift a miracle, a freak of nature-or something much more frightening?

For fans of best-sellers like Before I Fall and If I Stay, this is a fascinating and heart-rending story about love and friendship and the fine line between life and death.

Megan Says: There are so many books I’m looking forward to in 2012. Actually, there are so many books I hope to read in January alone. But here are three 2012 books that I know I’ll be grabbing as soon as they’re available.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green: I wanted to read this book even before I knew what it was about. This is because I will read anything and everything ever written by John Green. Then I found out what The Fault in Our Stars was actually about, and…yeah, this book shot straight to the top of my wish list. Actually, that’s a lie. It’s not even on my wish list anymore. I preordered this book months ago.

Insurgent by Veronica Roth: Divergent was a book the caught me by surprise last year. It really captivated me, and I found myself thinking about it long after I put it down. I loved the story, I loved the writing, and I loved the characters. I’m really looking forward to the continuation of Tris’ story in Insurgent.

Slide by Jill Hathaway: I’ve been lucky enough to follow this book through the publication journey. I read (and loved) this book in draft-form. I have since read (and loved) this book in ARC form. I cannot wait to read it again as a finished product when it debuts in March. It's a great mystery with strong characters and a killer premise.

Thanks so much to Jodi & Megan for sharing their top reads for 2012!

  2. YES!! All of those are on my list as well, 2012 has some crazy amazing books coming out, I can't wait! Insurgent can't come out soon enough, I loved Divergent and am quite possibly even more in love with the covers for both books than I am with the books themselves:) Thanks so much for sharing Jodi and Megan!
